A glimpse of my story – Part 2

All good things come to an end

I joined a real estate company in Dubai as a property consultant with a magnificent team of international colleges. Things could not have gone better for me. Amazing people to work with, a great project at our hand, and presenting products to customers and very good income. I woke up every morning feeling happy and going to work with an enthusiasm. It was like one of those Hollywood movie scenes where life is all good and nothing can go wrong. Then it happened, we woke up with a news of the global financial crisis. The booming real estate business slowed down to a near stop, leaving projects unfinished and the team being let go one by one. Luxury cars were being abandoned in airport parking lots as the unemployed could not longer afford the extravagant living cost of Dubai and were leaving back to their home countries. It was a time of a big distress bandit seemed that the good times were over all too soon.

All good things come to an end

My decision was to invest what I have earned, not in a property, but in education.  So I joined UOW in Dubai to study and instead of continuing in my original field of IT, I chose something a bit different and enrolled in University of Wollongong in Dubai to study Master of Strategic Marketing.  What a great decision it was. I was hearing things and reading stories that made me tingle. Whereas IT was about the 1’s & 0’s, this field was about the different variations between those. I started to see things differently and started to fall in love with the field. After graduation unfortunately I had pack my bags and leave a place I called home for the past twenty something years and move to Iran. I won’t go to the details of it, but UAE and Iran have had tensions that affected many of us and forced us to move out.

A roller-coaster of events

Moving back to your home country after never having lived there as an adult can be quite an experience. The culture shock I received was  far more than I anticipated. In addition, a family tragedy of losing my father made life impossible. But that’s a story for another day as I want to focus on the positives. With great support from my amazing wife and a focus to change our life, we moved to Finland to pursue a second master degree in the field of User Experience.  After about 2 years of living in Tehran we moved to Tampere, Finland. This is where we are today, I have managed to graduate from an amazing university and with a wealth of new skills at my disposal ready to start a new chapter of my life.

  1. Having read this I thought it was extremely enlightening.
I appreciate you finding the time and effort to put this informative
article together. I once again find myself personally spending
a lot of time both reading and commenting. But so what,
    it was still worth it!
